'Oli the Choc' visits Chelford
Class 3 pupils were delighted to welcome local chocolatier Oli Dunn (Oli the Choc) to spend some time discussing the influence of an old Maya tradition - chocolate - or ‘chocolhaa’ (later known as xocolatl by the Aztecs). Did you know that the Maya are credited as the first people to harvest the cocoa bean to produce chocolate? Unlike today’s sweet treat, the Maya would use cocoa to produce a rather bitter-tasting, frothy drink, which was often mixed with chilli! Oli gave a demonstration on how he uses the fruits of the cocoa bean to produce his own chocolate products - applying his creativity and knowledge of science to create all manner of impressive chocolate structures! Pupils had a super afternoon learning all about Oli’s work and loved making their own lolly-chocs!
